Stay Grateful

On Thanksgiving Day we gather with family and friends to celebrate the abundant blessings in our lives. Our hearts glow with warmth and comfort. We are filled with gratitude. Not to mention turkey, stuffing, potatoes and gravy. And in my family we do not forego the meatballs, sausage and pasta. Yet, there is always room for dessert.

I waited until after the holiday to post this so I could say one thing — Stay grateful! Live Thanksgiving everyday. Not the “stuff your face then pass out on the living room floor” part, but the glowing hearts filled with gratitude part. This magical life we live is the true celebration and it should be honored with gusto everyday.

We are blessed with a home planet of breathtaking beauty and diversity. It provides us with everything we need. And we have each other to keep the adventure interesting.

If you’ve been listening to the news lately you might think our time here is coming to an end. It would appear we are doomed, that we are destroying the planet and ourselves. Every mainstream story invokes fear or perpetuates useless drama. I’ll give you the same advice I gave my Mom — unplug!

She used to watch the news religiously. She was shocked by every murder, every home invasion and every war torn broadcast. She would always say the same thing — Don’t they know there’s enough in this world for everybody?

How profound.

She had no idea what she was saying. But it came from her heart. Our hearts know that all the resources we expend on attacking, defending or occupying could easily be used to feed, cloth and house the entire world. Scarcity is a myth.

But the collective ego would have us think differently. It shouts to make its point known. It has to be right and it will do whatever it takes to prove it.

On the flip side is spirit. Spirit whispers knowing we will hear it when we’re ready. Spirit knows the truth. It knows there’s no need to prove anything, no need to shout. It just is, always has been and always will be.

If you continue to watch the news today it would seem that spirit has taken a back seat in our world. Everything looks twisted and backwards. It’s overwhelming to an enlightened soul who can see through the illusion created by ego. But the delivery sounds so official we assume it must be legitimate so we allow them to spread their version of the truth. Meanwhile, we lose sight of spirit and our unlimited potential.

But we are awakening and remembering that we are spirit. What we’re being told by the talking heads no longer resonates. Deep inside we know the truth. It’s one hell of a wake up call so it’s understandable when we question ourselves. We refuse to accept that we’ve been duped for so long. We develop a sort of cognitive dissonance, keeping ourselves in the dark instead of addressing the conflicting ideas. Let’s not beat ourselves up for that. It’s a lot to take in. If we keep our hearts open, our feelings will guide us. We are all in this together.

When a few brilliant fires burn in the darkness they can be seen for miles. Others are attracted to them and begin to gather. They soak in the warmth and the glow until they themselves are warm and glowing.

In the early 80s during the Israeli – Lebanese conflict, the International Peace Project did an experiment using Transcendental Meditation. On specific days at specific times they positioned trained practitioners in war torn areas. These people meditated on the feeling of peace. During their meditation, while they were in a peaceful state, terrorist attacks decreased. Criminal activity, traffic accidents and emergency room visits all went down. When they stopped, the numbers reversed. The experiment proved that when a small percentage of the population achieves peace within themselves, peace is reflected in the world around them. In fact the study was so detailed that they were able to identify that it takes less than 1% of the population to have a noticeable affect on the rest.

That is how powerful we are! And that is truly something to be thankful for.

By the way, intention experiments continue today with successful results. Check out some of the stuff going on at https://lynnemctaggart.com. They just conducted another meditation focused on peace in the Middle East with Israelis and Arabs from 8 countries.

I hope everyone had a happy, healthy and abundant Thanksgiving! May we forever carry the holiday feelings of peace, love and gratitude with us and share them with everyone we meet.
